Mc Lyte To Get An Award At This Years BET
BET will honor Brooklyn’s own MC Lyte with its I Am Hip-Hop Award at this year’s BET Awards September 28 in Atlanta, according to BILLBOARD. She joins an illustrious list of former honorees, including Rakim, Russell Simmons, Grandmaster Flash and Salt-N-Pepa. The awards will be broadcast October 15.
The award will honor Lyte as a pioneer for female rappers in the game, as the first female solo rapper to get a Grammy nomination and to hit Gold status for the 1993 single “RuffNeck.” She also has created the Hip-Hop Sisters Foundation, which gives out a full scholarship to college students, as well as the Hip-Hop Sisters Network, which aims to connect and showcase female rappers and performers. She’s also starring in a NEW BET REALITY SHOW called Hip-Hop Sisters, which will follow Lyte and five other artists trying to re-launch their careers. She’ll be joined by The Lady Of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama.
